"I feel you!!!!"
That was how my colleague, A, and I communicate each time we see each other.
It was interesting how we came to this salutation. We were in an in-house course together and we were told to do an exercise - Constellation. Basically, it's about body languages and guessing the emotions behind those body languages. We were both spot on, being able to guess what were the emotions the other person was trying to portray. That was when we started sharing about those emotions (both sad feelings). At the end of it, we came to the conclusion that we could read each other minds well, we could 'FEEL' each other very well.
And so, yes, A came to my office today wanting to use my color printer. As the paper was going through the printer, A asked "Why are you still in the office now? You should not be staying till so late? Get a life! Either you are not seeing your man enough or you need a new man."
"But A, the demands are high. Morning and afternoon, there are kids walking in and out, there are demands to meet, this is a Home and it's operational. Paper work can be done best at night. Today already not bad. I am physically in the office till so late. Most of the times, I will bring it home to do."
"Ya... but you need to have a life! You cannot set your benchmark as high as your boss you know?"
"I know... but deadlines are still deadlines. You know right?"
"So, when are you going to settle down?"
"Maybe 2010"
"So late?"
"Ok la... Preparation starts next year mah..."
"I tell you, preparation starts now and starts from you not working till so late! So, is HE who I think HE is?"
"Who you think?"
"Someone from Beyond right? Name starts with G and ends with Y?"
"Hehe... Yes, Yes, Yes."
"Ah.... hahaha!! You know, before I thought it was him, I was wondering where he was swaying towards? Men? Women? So I thought maybe centre?"
"Hey... he's very masculine ok?"
"Hey Sandra, seriously ah... You have to make more time for him and yourself la. It's good you both are in the same organisation so you both can't blame each other for your busyness. But it's really good and bad. Listen to me, I am a father of 2, I know. You are a nice girl and I hope for the best for you. We do not live to work. We work to live." (Ok, this is REALLY a serious talk. He was REALLY REALLY REALLY ABSOLUTELY serious with me, advising me.)
"What? Father of 2??? So why are you still in the office at this time?"
It was truly a very nice conversation with A. I know that he meant well. I honestly could feel it. Hahahaha!!! Yes A, I feel you!
